THINGS TO DO IN MOBILE, AL

Beaches
The Gulf Coast’s beaches are known throughout the country for their pristine white sand and abundance of beach activities. There are several beaches located within a short driving distance of the city center. These include Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, and Point Clear. Each beach has its own unique experience waiting for visitors. The busiest of the beaches are Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach. Fort Morgan is more well known for it rugged nature and Point Clear is located in the bay itself and is not as touristy. No matter which beach you choose you will enjoy your time on the coast.

Mobile’s history is based in large part to its location on the bay and the river in the area. Maritime travel and trade played a significant role in establishing the city throughout its entire history. This museum is dedicated to that history. The museum is relatively new to the region. It features exhibits, displays, and theaters. If you want to experience the rich history of the Gulf this is a great place to start.
History Museum of Mobile
The city’s history is rich and deep rooted in American history. The region has been in European’s hands since the early 1500’s making it one of the oldest regions in the entire country for European influenced history. This museum is dedicated to that history. Bragg-Mitchell Mansion
The Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is a relic from the Antebellum South. This mansion was built in the mid 1800’s and once served as center of the port’s social life during the cotton boom of the 19 th century. The mansion stands as a reminder of the city’s accumulated wealth and connection to the country’s slave holding past. Visitors can get a glimpse of what the Southern Aristocracy lived like by taking a walk through the parlors and halls of the mansion. The architecture and grounds are stunning and definitely worth visiting.
USS Alabama
The USS Alabama is a National Landmark that draws visitors from all over the country and the world. It is a World War II Battleship that has been converted into a museum in Mobile Bay. During the war the ship saw action in both the European and Pacific fronts making it a unique ship. Visitors to the museum can tour the various parts of the ship including the main guns.
There are many other attractions in the city worth mentioning. These include the Museum of Art, the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, the Carnival Museum, the Richards DARHouse Museum, the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, the University of South Alabama Archaeology Museum, the Botanic Gardens, and the Fort Conde Museum and Welcome Center. All of these attractions are well worth your time.
